Meet Dr. Minnard

Dr. Emery Minnard

Dr. Minnard is a native Lafayette, Louisiana where he attended Holy Rosary Institute for high school.  He then attended Xavier University in New Orleans, graduating in the class of 84, before being accepted and attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville Tennessee.  He completed his surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan.  He completed a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  During his residency he completed 2 years of cancer research at the University of Pennsylvania where he authored several papers in cell biology and signal transduction.

He returned to Louisiana as an assistant professor of surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport.  And there he became very active in the state’s preventative as well as awareness initiative is in early detection and treatment with the aid of the American Cancer Society.  He then moved to the New Orleans area where after a brief stent at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans he went into private practice on the West Bank of New Orleans at West Jefferson Medical Center and Ochsner Medical Center West Bank Campus.

Dr. Minnard practicied Surgical Oncology and General Surgery at Ochsner Medical Center Westbank where he performed thousands of complex operations on cancer patients specifically related to breast, lung, colon and hepatobiliary tumors.  He served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Ochsner Westbank.  He also trained Tulane University Medical School surgical residents and medical students and Ochsner surgical residents and medical students from University of Queensland Medical School and Xavier University/Ochsner Physician Assistant School.  He continues to teach and remains busy in academics lecturing around the country.
